Devonport Folk Music Club

Devonport Folk Music Club meets every Monday at the historic command post, "The Bunker" on Mt Victoria, Devonport, Auckland, New Zealand.

The Bunker has been home to the Folk Club for over 40 years.

The best local and visiting overseas singers and musicians are hosted. A Club Night or Concert Night is a good inexpensive night out in the company of friends.

Please take note of door charges as they may vary for concerts. This programme is subject to change. It is always a good idea to ring first if there is something special you want to see - it is essential to book early for concerts, as space is limited.

All evenings start 8pm unless otherwise specified.

                      SEPTEMBER PROGRAMME 2014

Monday 1st UKULELE JAM 7pm - the learning curve
steepens.  CLUB NIGHT 8pm - all welcome, lovely fire, lovely time, lovely people.  Members $3  non-members $5

Monday 8th PHIL GARLAND IN CONCERT - with songs from his recent production of Joe Charles ballads, Blackberry Pie.   Tickets $15

Wednesday 10th AUCKLAND BLUEGRASS & OLD TIME COUNTRY MUSIC CLUB - vocal workshop with Beverley Young.  Tickets $15 

Sunday 14th MICHAEL FIX IN CONCERT - from Australia, a fine acoustic guitarist and musician you shouldn't miss.  Tickets $20

Monday 15th UKULELE JAM 7pm - Paul Jonson's teach-in-folk-uke. CLUB NIGHT 8pm - theme songs for the night, 'Politics', of course.  Members $3 non- members $5

Sunday 21st FIRE IN THE MOUNTAIN 7 - 10pmi- last of the season's sessions led by Micheal Young around the log fire.  No charge

Monday 22nd CLUB NIGHT - all welcome.  Members $3 non-members $5


Monday 29th UKULELE JAM 7pm lots of fun and, hey, you can learn something.  CLUB NIGHT 8pm - where everyone can have a go.  Members $3  non-members $5

Monday 6th MY PENNYWORTH - special guest songwriters are up from Tauranga to share their talents with you.  Members $3 non $5

Wednesday 8th AUCKLAND BLUEGRASS & OLD TIME COUNTRY MUSIC CLUB -  Federal String Band Concert.  Tickets $15 members $20 non-members $20

Monday 13th UKULELE JAM 7pm bring your uke and join in. CLUB NIGHT 8pm - sea songs and shanties with the MARITIME CREW, and yourselves.  Members $3 non-members $5

Sunday 19th DES RAINEY IN CONCERT - 'Two Raisins'  and others.  At last all those quirky and wonderful songs of Des' are to be recorded live at the Bunker. You can be part of it.  Tickets $15

Monday 20th AL YOUNG will educate and demonstrate his collection of autoharps.  Members $3 non-memebrs $5


Monday 27th UKULELE JAM 7pm all welcome.  CLUB NIGHT 8pm - bring you Labour Day theme songs.  The workers struggle goes on.  Members $3 non-members $5

Wednesday 29th MARTIN & ELIZA CARTHY IN CONCERT - guests at the Wellyfest, but they wanted to play the Bunker before returning to the auld country. Welcome back two MBE award recipients.  Tickets $25. no door sales.

Find "The Bunker"

The DFMC's venue is known as "The Bunker"

Location: On Mt Victoria, off Kerr St, Devonport

You can find us by taking the lookout road (off Kerr Street) to the carpark on the summit. Walk past the Ports of Auckland Signal Station, down the steps to the grass track with the statue, and you will find the Bunker nestled in the side of the mountain, overlooking Devonport and the harbour.

The Bunker was built in 1891, as a command post to watch for possible Russian invasion!

The second Wednesday of the month is "Guest Night" and the fourth Wednesday of the month is "Club Night".
